Woman Sentenced in Grand Traverse County Animal Cruelty Case

Boyne City Man Sentenced to Community Service, Restitution in Animal Cruelty Case

A judge has sentenced Boyne City man to pay $1,874 in restitution and to serve 100 hours of community service at the Charlevoix County Humane Society following his conviction on animal cruelty charges. In a news release issued shortly before noon Friday, Charlevoix County Prosecuting Attorney Allen Telgenhof said 33rd Circuit Court Judge Roy C. Hayes III sentenced Travis Jon Nelson, 29, Boyne City after Nelson pleaded guilty pleaded guilty to a felony charge of attempted torturing of an animal on Oct. 3. Rabies Confirmed in Pet Cat, Michigan County Health Officials Say

Oakland County health officials are urging pet owners to make sure their cats and dogs have up-to-date rabies vaccinations after a pet cat in Birmingham was confirmed to have contracted the disease.

“People and their pets are urged to avoid encounters with unfamiliar animals, and keep pets protected by getting them vaccinated,” said Leigh-Anne Stafford, health officer for Oakland County. Click here for the rest of the story.
