Cat Rescue Needs Help While Founder in the Hospital

Shelly Olree, founder and director of the S.O.S. Shelter, is currently in the hospital. She has been on a ventilator and her progress can be followed on the S.O.S. Facebook page. She is doing better but still has a long recovery ahead of her.

S.O.S. (Shelly Orlee’s Shelter) is in Hillman, about two hours northeast of Traverse City and a 25 minute drive west from Alpena. This cat rescue group was started in 2008 and is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization. They have saved hundreds of cats and kittens and the committed volunteers have stepped up to take care of the cats and the organization in Shelly’s absence. They rescue cats from death row as well as take in owner surrenders and strays. S.O.S. is a four-room no-kill shelter that is home to approximately 25-30 cats at any given time. Their mission is to make a difference, one animal at a time.

Right now there is a huge need for food and litter and money to pay for veterinarian care for the cats. A fundraiser has been started to help fund the organization during this time. Click here for more info. Shelly is the only one who knows her PayPal info which is why they are running the fundraiser under Chris Morris’s PayPal account. Chris is a longtime friend and foster for Shelly. Volunteers say that Shelly is always one to jump in and help anybody and right now she needs everyone’s help.
