Due to a horrible tragedy in Kalkaska the Kalkaska County Animal Control has taken in the pets of widow, Shirley Webber, while her house is being processed as a crime scene. Her husband and daughter were killed in a double homicide this week.

Stephanie’s Rescue is helping to care for these animals and area rescue groups and shelters in the area have taken in other Kalkaska Animal Control dogs to make space for the Webber dogs. Organizations stepping up and helping out Kalkaska include Missaukee Humane Society, Handds to the Rescue, Roscommon County Animal Shelter and the Wexford County Animal Shelter.

The Webber dogs are house dogs and couldn’t be left outside and alone. They are being cared for by Stephanie’s Animal Rescue and the Kalkaska County Animal Control until future arrangements can be made. The Webbers were the founders of Stephanie’s Animal Rescue and were currently fostering two dogs for the organization. They also participated in dog pulling events which can be seen on Shirley’s FB page.

Donations of dog food would be appreciated by both Stephanie’s Animal Rescue and the Kalkaska County Animal Shelter.

There is also a fund set up called the Tiffany Eckler Ferguson Memorial Fund to assist the family with funeral costs and future needs of Shirley Webber’s four grandchildren. You can find that information here.
