There are currently many kittens and puppies available from local animal shelters and rescue groups right now. Many are available to be adopted and more are on the way.
Missaukee Humane Society
MHS has seven adorable Boxer/Lab puppies who will be ready for adoption in 2-3 weeks. Their mom, Remi, will also be up for adoption after the puppies are ready to go out on their own. She is a great dog and will be spayed ahead of time for her new family. She is about 1-1/2 years old and is a wonderful mom to her puppies.
Remi and her babies were living outdoors and a caring person called the MHS about their conditions. Their dog house had no straw and only a blanket to keep them warm through the cold Michigan winter. Although this was in Wexford County and the MHS does not have animal control authority in a different county, they could not leave the dogs in this condition. They visited the home to see if the owner would turn the dogs over to them and were happy to see that at least there was fresh straw in the dog house. The owner didn’t want to surrender the mother dog but the MHS explained that the puppies would need their mom because they weren’t weaned yet so they could not leave her behind. The owner signed all of the dogs over and also gave them a 50 pound bag of dog food for Remi.
Remi and her puppies made their way to the safety and warmth of MHS and they have enjoyed watching them grow. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $150 and includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations/de-worming (plus rabies if old enough), microchipping, and flea preventative start. You can get an adoption application at their website at www.mhspets.org.

AC PAW has some adorable kittens ready to be a part of your family.
LUKE (above) is avery sweet little six month old black kitten. He was brought in thought to be hit by a car. His front leg has permanent nerve damage and the vet feels it will need to be amputated when he is a little older. He is in a foster home where they will care for him until he is ready to go to his new home.
The adorable kittens above were born at the AC PAW shelter to an injured mom cat in August of 2013. The kittens were shy when they first went to their foster home but socialized very quickly and now they love to be petted and held. They purr as soon as their foster mom reaches out for them. They are very playful and sweet. They are spayed/neutered and have their initial shots.
The kitten above is Jenny and she was found at the State Hospital on a construction site in October of 2013. She almost died of hypothermia but was saved by AC PAW. She is independent, lots of fun and very playful. She will be ready for adoption in about four weeks.
The two kitties above, Meadow and Forest, are six month old kittens who are very playful. They had a rough start in life but are now happy and healthy and ready for a new home. Their foster mom says they are very close to each other and she would like them to stay together. Meadow is a black and white medium hair female and Forest is a gray short hair male kitty.
The group of kittens above were given up by their owner with the mom kitty and will be ready for adoption in several weeks.
In addition to the many kittens that AC PAW has in their system, they will also have the cute puppies pictured below up for adoption sometime in March.
