The PANT-try Shelf is a pet food bank that helps pets and their families in need in Grand Traverse County and now in Cadillac. The program is run by Jess Hoedeman from the group “Frisco & Joey’s Mission.” Jess is one of those animal rescuers who shows up at all the regional pet events, helping network pets in need and working with whatever animal shelter or rescue group is looking to save lives. The PANT-try Shelf is an effort that’s very close to her heart.
One of the main reasons that people give up their pets is because they can’t afford them and sometimes it is only a temporary situation because of a job loss or family emergency. That is where pet food banks come in. Supporters donate money and pet food and the PANT-try shelf can distribute the pet food where it is needed the most. They offer food assistance to low income families who are trying to make ends meet. It can make all the difference to a family who might otherwise have to turn in their pet to an animal shelter because they can no longer care for them.
If you’d like to drop off pet food for pet owners in Grand Traverse County, please do so at Banfield Pet Hospital inside of Petsmart. If you’d like to help people in Cadillac and Wexford County, please drop off your donations to the Wexford County Animal Shelter. When you drop off the pet food, please let these locations know that it’s for the PANT-try shelf.
There will also be a Holiday Hound Project coming up soon which helps pets over the holiday season. The collection kick off starts on November 29th and runs through December 16th. You can donate pet food, pet treats and cat litter to the same places mentioned above. In addition to those locations, you can also drop off pet food donations at the Great Lakes Pet Memorial in Traverse City.
